True story…
During Halloween of my teenage and young college years, a group of friends would dress up in ridiculous and comical costumes.
Ideas as bizarre as “gay samurai cowboys”…
… To putting on Superman tights meant for a 5-year-old.
But the “chef’s kiss” I would do was stuff bundled socks into the “nether regions” to look a lot more “endowed” — to the point where it was just obvious.
Anyway…
This story does have a point other than for embarrassment and entertainment…
“Looking bigger” is actually a strategy in both military and business that has helped to help win wars.
Washington did it during the Revolutionary War. Using guerrilla tactics and tricks to make it look like he had a platoon twice the actual size.
Listen to Dan Carlins history of the Mongols and they were brilliant at this; Using psychological strategies to “promote” their brutality and exaggerate it from city to city — winning battles before they even reach field.
They did this in WW2… using inflated tanks and vehicles to make it look like a huge army was prepping.
Well…
This got me thinking…
About how “big” some influencers, coaches, and service providers appear to be…
For example, the “marketing agency” that’s really just a solopreneur who white labels all the services he provides… which lends to increased credibility.
Or the coach with all the books published… which lends to increased authority and expertise.
Or the investor that keeps showing up in the social media feed talking about some deals he’s looking at, or tips for investing… which lends to more private lenders trusting him.
Take me for example…
My site makes me look a lot bigger than I am.
It’s very professionally done — “Can’t be a one-man show doing this”.
But it is — apart from the handful of contractors.
And so, it lends itself to more JV deals, and clients naturally being “sold” to, without me having to prospect much.
So if you suffer from “looking a bit small” to the general public…
Maybe it’s time to stuff the proverbial sock in the “nether regions” and wow the public with some more endowment…
… or…
